The historical center of Cuenca is one of the most beautiful architectural settings of Spain, and that is why it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
It preserves a rich artistic and architectural heritage, with monuments as unique as the Cathedral or the renowned Casas Colgadas (“Hanging Houses”), currently home to the Spanish Museum of Abstract Art. They have become the indisputable icon of the city because of their peculiar architecture.
Enclosed by the canyons carved by the rivers Júcar and Huécar, the historical center is surrounded by many lookout points from where we can admire the splendour of the whole ensemble.
After walking up and down the city´s steep and winding streets, visitors can regain strength at one of the many bars and restaurants, where they will taste specialties like zarajos, morteruelo or ajoarriero.
